How do I measure irrigation-water salinity?

Use a compatible EC meter or a laboratory result with conductivity referenced to 25 °C. You do not need to buy Baraka’s meter if you already have suitable evidence.

A little more detail

Record the EC value, unit, measurement date and source. For a field meter, retain its instrument reference and calibration record/date, and confirm that the instrument displayed conductivity compensated to 25°C. Calibration must be on or before measurement. Follow its sampling and calibration instructions. Baraka converts dS/m, mS/cm or µS/cm units; it does not convert TDS or calculate an unvalidated temperature correction.

Scientific and source detail

Water ECw and soil ECe are different quantities. A water-meter reading or raw soil-probe reading does not establish soil ECe: use a compatible laboratory saturation-extract result. Leaching requires reviewed conditions and suitable drainage; it is not automatically added to every irrigation.
